Boca townhouse association sues ex-president over missing money
While the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office continues its
investigation into charges that the former president of the Boca
Rio Townhome Association allegedly took money while she was in
office, the association itself has filed a civil suit against
the woman, her husband and a man identified as a former
association vice president.
Attorney Jean Winters of Winters & Winters of Boca Raton filed
the suit Friday in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. It names
Betty and Albert Marshall and Mike Addessi as defendants.
It claims that “Betty Marshall and Mike Addessi have
misappropriated, converted and received the benefits of the
association’s funds in excess of $610,070,” the lawsuit says.
Leah Mayersohn, whose law firm, Mayersohn Law Group, represents
Betty Marshall, said several residents of the townhouse complex
harassed her client before she was forced to leave office. The
Marshalls moved out of their Boca Rio townhouse and are
reportedly living in a house they own in Hershey, Pa., she said.
Mayersohn said she has a number of police reports about
incidents at the Marshall home at Boca Rio Townhomes. She said
the house was burglarized and swastikas were painted on it. The
attorney said she is considering the possibility of filing
charges against some residents ! – whom she characterized as
“condo commandos.”
Marshall, a 68-year-old grandmother, held the office of
president for three years. Members of board appointed after she
left said they have found money missing from the treasury.
Members of the new board have told the Boca Raton News that
while Marshall was in office, bills often went unpaid or were
paid late, running up large finance charges. The board also has
a copy of a document it says shows the association’s debit card
being used at an ATM machine at the Hard Rock Casino.
“A number of people had access to the accounts and the ATM
card,” said Mayersohn, who also noted that Marshall received
“tons of threatening letters” while in office.
